1/ The village of Davayé
Before setting off to climb the Two Rocks, or taking your car to the zoo, take some time to discover the village of Davayé. The village has 7 wash houses that form a very interesting route for visiting Davayé. The charm of its stone houses will accompany you throughout your walk.
2/ Climbing the Two Rocks
The Rocks of Solutré and Vergisson are iconic sites of Southern Burgundy. They were classified as a Grand Site de France in 2013. These limestone escarpments, at altitudes of 493m and 483m, were formed over several million years, long before our era. The Rock of Solutré is full of fossils of marine creatures, such as mollusks, shells, and crinoids. The archaeological discoveries made on the site led to the creation of the Museum of Prehistory, embedded in the rock. Enriched by your visit to the museum, you can climb to the summit to admire a panoramic view of the Mâconnais region. You can also observe the horses of the Konik Polski breed, which resemble their prehistoric ancestors, and maintain the protected limestone grasslands classified as a Natura 2000 zone.
3/ Hiking in the Mâconnais
The surroundings of Davayé offer beautiful walks through rustic villages, hedgerows, and forests. The most renowned trails will take you to the rocks of Solutré and Vergisson and lead you through the vineyards into the heart of the must-see villages of Solutré-Pouilly and Fuissé. 4/ The city of Mâcon
The city of Mâcon, capital of the Mâconnais, is located just a few kilometers from Davayé. Situated on the banks of the Saône, the city offers a peaceful stroll along the quays. Mâcon’s heritage is rich with a luxuriant past. The Church of Saint-Pierre and the Pont de Saint-Laurent are iconic buildings that the city takes great care of. Many activities await you in the city. After browsing the shops in the city center, have a meal at one of the many restaurants along the Saône and then treat yourself to a little digestive walk on the Place Lamartine. 5/ Touroparc Zoo
Touroparc is a must-visit zoo and leisure park in the region. It’s the perfect place to spend a family day. Discover the animals and then have fun on the park’s attractions. Its small size has the advantage of not draining all your energy. After your day at the park, take advantage of your visit to the village of Romanèche-Thorins to dine at one of the restaurants in this charming little town.
6/ Berzé-le-Châtel Fortress, a historical journey
The Berzé-le-Châtel fortress is an emblematic site in Southern Burgundy. Dating from the 13th century, the castle is particularly well preserved.
